Between gardening and interviewing local artists and crafters, I have been able to squeeze in a little crafting. I’ve been playing around with some pages in my art journals.
Today is about using masking tape to make backgrounds. It’s easy peasy and fun!
I first put tape randomly on the page.

Then I paint over it. For this page I used acrylic.

Here is the finished background.

I love how the tape doesn’t take all of the paint so it’s lighter in those spots. Love that texture. But, no we’re not done.

Then the finished page.

This page is about that day when I took Sidd to the vet for his physical. He had lost a pound and a half since last year. The doc did all the tests and said he was fine. He was just getting old – he’s 15 – and we need to feed him some higher caloric food. I had switched him to the low fat food in 2006 when he weighed 17 pounds! He’s now down to 11.5.

Here are a couple of the other backgrounds with tape.
And another page –
It’s a great technique to add some texture. Fun, fun, fun! Another technique in my art journal tomorrow.
Oh Lynda, I love this! And I love your Sidd page…it’s so cool. And I very much like what you did with that carpet backing grid. You do take the tape off, right? You didn’t say and I can’t tell by the photos.
Kathy, Thanks. No, you don’t take the tape off!
What a cool technique, Lynda, how do you always come up with stuff like that!!
Glad Sidd is ok!
Lynda,
Love those journal pages! Would you have any interest in doing a program on journal pages at a local library sometime in October or November?

Teresa, Glad you liked them. I’ll email you. Lynda
