More Ice Dyed Fabric

In my last ice dyeing adventure I stacked the fabric in a container. This time I thought I’d go back to my original ice dyeing procedure. I loved the “parfait” but wanted more control. Here are the three items I dyed. This shirt I purchased from Dharma Trading just waiting for my dye.

Then I wanted to see how these dyes would work on drill cloth, a fabric that Lisa Engelbrecht uses to write on.  She has a great article, “Text as Texture on Fabric” in the current issue of Art Quilting Studio. Drill cloth is located at Joann’s next to the duck. It’s similar to canvas and duck but has a smaller weave.

It took the dyes wonderfully! In person it looks like a painting.

This last piece I had previously ice dyed with just green and yellow and I didn’t like it. I dyed it this time adding the raspberry, cobalt blue, and yellow.

It’s pretty muted compared to the other pieces. I like the fan shape in the left corner.

I will definitely wear the shirt and the drill cloth may be made as a wall hanging. I don’t think I’ll attempt to write on it though. Not sure about the last piece. I love this way of dyeing fabric. I love how intense the colors are and I like being surprised.

Another project I will be working on is an apron I made several months ago.  I want to dye it before I take Kathy’s class at the end of the month. I was ready to ice dye it the other day, but decided to wait. I may play with Seta Colors on it instead.

That’s all for today. Hope you are having a creative day.
