If you have been following my blog, you know I’m on a fabric dyeing kick. I still had some dye concentrate left after my low immersion dyeing so I had to try something else.
In Frieda Anderson’s “Fabric to Dye For” she covers Stand and Pour fabric dyeing technique which I thought would be fun to try.

First I set up the piece to dye. I pinned the fabric at the top to the lovely dyeing board Kathy gave us in her screen printing class. I also put a piece of fabric under it in a tray to catch excess dye.

I put my dyes into squeeze bottles for this fabric dyeing technique. Then I squirted the dye on the fabric.

This is how the fabric looked when I got done.

Then I waited for 24 hours. After rinsing, washing and drying, this is what I came up with.

Here is a closeup again of the material.

And here is the material that was in the tray catching the extra dye.
I thought this was an interesting technique. Next time I will drip the paint down differently. I’m not sure why I felt like I had to drip them in wide strips. It would have been prettier to blend them. Frieda’s sample in the book looked more like a watercolor – absolutely beautiful.
I do like the dripping catcher – interesting with the folds and all.
Have you ever tried this?
Well, that was fun, but all of the fabric dyeing for right now. So much more to blog about.
I’ve never tried this, but it looks really fun. Thanks for sharing at the All Star Block Party!
I really like the result! And the result in the drip tray as well :))

Check out Morris Louis. He was a mid-century ‘color field’ painter who poured paint onto untreated canvas. Very similar technique. And very beautiful. Love this website btw!
Michelle, Thanks! I’ll check him out. Thank you for dropping by.
