Well, it was a sad day last week when Randy’s Tree Service came in and cut down our Elm. This 100+ year old beauty died from Dutch Elm Disease. She had suffered a lot of damage from the ice storm in 09, but looked great this spring. Anyway, when she was cut down, she was about 85% dead.

Here is what the area looks like now.
And what is left of her.
Sad day here. It sure looks different in our back yard. She will be missed, but not forgotten.
Oh no, it does look empty now 🙁 She was a very beautiful tree! Still, at least you know there was no way around it. What happens if a dead tree isn’t cut down I wonder? Will it still stand and just not live or will it become unstable and fall after a while?
Kristina, in our case the tree would eventually fall down on our house or the other trees! Also, since it died of dutch elm disease, we didn’t want our other elm to also get the disease. It’s also so sad to see it dead.
