Cocoa Mango Soap [print_link]
A Happy Acres Original
10% Cocoa Butter- 90 grams or 3.2 ounces
10% Mango Butter – 90 grams or 3.2 ounces
5% Castor Oil – 45 grams or 1.6 ounces
20% Olive Oil – 180 grams or 6.3 ounces
25% Palm Oil -225 grams or 7.9 ounces
30 % Coconut Oil – 270 grams or 9.5 ounces
Distilled Water – 342 grams or 12 ounces
Lye – 127 grams or 4.47 ounces
Mango Sorbet Fragrance Oil 1.5 tablespoons added at trace.
As with any recipe you get off of the internet, please run this through one of the calculators. This one is my favorite.
Carol asked me about soapmaking resource suppliers and suggested I list them on my blog post. I thought that was a good idea!
Most of my supplies, except for lye and some oils, I buy from Majestic Mountain Sage, Wholesale Supplies Plus or Bramble Berry. I have purchased lye from Bramble Berry, but now buy from my local Ace Hardware under the label Rooto – 100% lye. Be sure if you buy locally, that you buy 100% lye and not drain cleaner. However, Rooto will be shelved with the drain cleaners. At our local Ace, due to all of the meth traffic, I have to ask at the cash register for it! If you are planning on making a large quantity of soap or plan to go in the soapmaking business, I’d check out resources online or in your area. Since I’m only making soap for family and friends, I don’t need a lot of this product.
There are a lot of other suppliers online. These are just the ones I have been dealing with lately. They also carry preservatives (for water based lotions and creams) and all kinds of packaging. However, many of the basic oils can be bought at the local grocery or health food store. But the more you play with soap and making your own beauty products, you’ll want to experiment with the “fancy” oils and butters.
Our basement, where we let our soap cure, smells wonderful with the Old Tyme Vanilla and this soap. I’ll post an update once it is ready. Anne, This recipe makes 2 lbs, enough to fit into our wood molds. The percentages are there for anyone who wants to make a larger or smaller batch. Have fun!
