Well, Dave and I are at it again! We made two soaps yesterday. This first one is made from lard. We wanted to try lard since that’s what soap used to be made with.
We used lard from the store and it was S-T-I-N-K-Y! But today with the vanilla creme fragrance oil, we can only smell vanilla. Yum!

This is an easy recipe only using three oils. If you are not familiar with cold process soapmaking, please read the instructions Here.
75% Lard – 675 grams or 24 ounces
20% Olive Oil – 180 grams or 6 ounces
5% Castor Oil – 45 grams or 1.5 ounces
Distilled water – 342 grams or 12 ounces
Lye – 118 grams or 4 ounces
1.5 tablespoon Vanilla Creme Fragrance Oil added at trace
This makes 4 pounds of soap
Before making any soap from any blog including mine, check the recipe through one of the online soap calculators.
It’s nice to be getting back to soaping. It’s a fun activity that we like to do together.
I’ll post the other soap recipe tomorrow.
What difference does lard make to vegetable oils? This must be the most traditional way, using lard, right? Do tell if it is different when the soap is cured and you are testing it.
