Sometimes we have to let go of traditions. I guess that’s why I get sad during the holiday season. However, it’s always great to start new traditions which is what Dave and I did today.
I’ve been making my own Christmas cards for as long as I can remember. Now, that doesn’t mean there weren’t a couple years when I bought ready made, but most of my Christmases have involved homemade art. Some of the cards were probably pretty childish, but they were me. An ole friend once told me she loved getting my cards because they were homemade. Every time I think about not making them, I think of her comment. I wish I still had some of those cards, especially that one that I made with a homemade stencil.
A few years ago I decided to start using my photos. Here are some of them.

Since my cards are usually completed before my Christmas decorations go up, this picture was taken the Christmas before they were sent out. Shel and Sidd are sitting on the Christmas tree skirt/table cover I made.

This shot was definitely taken the previous Christmas. That year (don’t remember which it was!) I bought that Nativity set and set it on top of the entertainment unit. During that holiday season I walked in the living room one day and there was Shel sitting in the middle of it!

This 2005 card showed the front of my house (before Happy Acres and Dave) from a deep snow in December 2004.

This photo was taken on our trip to the White Sands National Monument in New Mexico in 2006. Just looking at that picture gives me an idea!! Hum!

After getting married in 2007, I bought Christmas cards for the first two Christmases. But then last year, we started making them together and going totally digital. These are pictures from snow here at Happy Acres.
Well, this year we’ve finished our cards and have started a new tradition. Cards and return labels were printed out, lists were gathered, and we set a time to get together and address them together.

We put on some Christmas music and addressed and signed our cards together. We thought about hot cocoa, but thought we’d wait and have that for our after dinner treat.
I like traditions and new traditions are good!
Your cards are beautiful, Lynda! I especially like the house in winter one but the ones with the cats are very cute and hilarious too. I think homemade cards are so special and so much nicer to receive than storebought ones, because you know the sender put thought and effort into them 🙂
Thanks for sharing your homemade cards. I make a lot of homemade gifts, but have to admit that I have never made my Christmas cards. I did make our Wedding Celebration invitations two years ago and they were beautiful! I didn’t realize that you and Dave are also a newly wed middle aged couple!
Robin, I made our wedding invitations also and that was neat. Yes, we were lucky we found each other finally!! Thanks for commenting and we are looking forward to making some mustard!
Your cards are beautiful! I have to admit I have quit even sending any out…I am just too busy the first two weeks of December. I would love to make handmade cards, but haven’t done that yet…maybe someday?
