The dwarf irises are blooming

It is really amazing how everything is blooming so early this year. If you have followed my blog for the past couple of years you know that we have a lot of irises.

Last year due to the wet spring, our irises did not do well at all. Not even half of the varieties bloomed. Because of that and the fact that the iris holding area has really gotten hard for me to take care of with all of the other areas, I’ve decided to get rid of it. Last summer I dug up some of my favorite irises, potting them up for us and my friend Marsha. She ended up planting hers. Mine are still in those pots!

But that’s another post. Today is all about the dwarf irises. My master gardener friend Kris brought me over a variety of dwarfs from her yard in 2010 which I put in pots waiting for the perfect area. When we lost the tree in the front of the house, that area became a sunny place just right for those little ones.  It’s also a nice area that we walk by daily so we can enjoy these beauties. So last year I planted them in that spot and this week they have been blooming. All of these irises are from 6 to 12 inches tall.

Kris was nice to give me names for most of them.

I don’t know the names of the next irises.  I hope Kris will visit my blog here and tell me who they are!

And I still have several dwarfs that haven’t bloomed.

My irises have inspired some of my art/crafting. On this post I showed this stitching of one of my irises. That was my first attempt. Next time I’ll try this on a lighter fabric.

And then I sketched an iris for this post.

They are lovely, but just aren’t around for long. But it’s nice they are here long enough to inspire me. Thanks to my camera I can look at them all year.

What inspires you to create?
