Years ago, I taught an online class called Monthly Write where on a certain date each month we would respond to four writing prompts and also include art and pictures. It was a fun class and I treasure that journal.
I’ve really had trouble getting back into the habit of keeping any type of journal – art or regular – even though writing in a journal was a constant in my life for 40 plus years. I found that I’m more interested in spending my time playing with fabric and paper than writing, but I do still believe documenting our life is important.
I love the inspiration I get from all of the creative bloggers out there. One of them, Linda Kittmer is trying her best to push me back into my art journals (among other art). She’s been working on her monthly art journal where each two-page spread includes the whole month with areas to write just a little on each day. I’ve seen this done on the web, but not quite as artistic as Linda’s.
Anyway, I broke down yesterday and created my January page. I’m not promising that I will keep this up all year, but it seems doable.

And a closeup:

One of my concerns is that the space for each day is pretty small and won’t give me enough room to write. But on the other hand, it might be easier to keep up with each day. However, I have a backup plan if this journal doesn’t work for me. I’m binding another art journal that will give me plenty of room if needed. Oh, thanks Linda for the inspiration!
Have you tried one of these types of art journals before? Want to join me?
Love these pages! My own journal has been sadly neglected. Like the idea of just a small space for writing – not so intimidating!
Deb, Thanks! Yeah, that’s what I thought. Thanks for dropping by.
I too wondered about the small spaces for writing, but hey..I’m not writing a thing…except for the newspaper!!!!!

Lynda, your page looks beautiful. Thanks for the ‘shout out’! The trick for the little spaces is to use a very tiny tip pen, like a Micron 01, and write only the highlight of the day in very small text. Have fun with it!

Linda, Thank you and thanks for the tip. I’ll have my 01 ready and waiting! Thanks again for all of your inspiration this past year. Looking forward to more next year. Lynda
What an awesome idea! Thanks for sharing. Going to work on this for myself.
