Morning Tea Art Quilt

In the last post I mentioned a couple projects I needed to complete this month. One of them was for the  “Anything Tea” challenge by the Facebook group, Postcard Fabric Art – Quilt, Applique, FMQ, Paint, Monthly Challenge. If you are interested in joining this group, go over to FB and  check out this group.

Here is how I started the process. I took a picture of how I make and drink tea in the morning. I converted the picture in Photoshop Elements to black and white, and added a comic filter to make it look more like a coloring page.

I placed the drawing over my fabric on my light box and traced around the two items. After sewing all around them, I added color with my Derwent Inktence pencils.

Then I added water with a brush. I love how it turns the pencil marks into beautiful colors.

Once I was happy with my painting, I cut the pitcher and the mug out creating appliques. Here is another post about this process in more detail.

Now to audition the background. This was way too wild.

Then I found in my stash this fabric to serve as the table, and just had to decide on the background. Here is the blue dyed fabric.

That was pretty but I wanted to check out this other dyed fabric. I decided I liked this one much better.

Then I sewed the bottom to the dyed fabric. I added that piece to felt and the backing fabric and sewed lines in the bottom fabric before adding the appliques.

I ended up facing the art quilt instead of adding binding or zigzagging the edges.

That was fun! I’m looking forward to next month’s challenge. This group has these challenges every year but I haven’t been able to keep up with them. However in 2020 the challenge was called “Time Periods.”  Here is a post showing those twelve challenges I completed.

I’ve completed the second project but I can’t show it just yet. I see many more art quilts this year since I’m feeling like my muse has finally returned. Stay safe and warm. It’s going to be a cold one here shortly.
