Creating Together

With Dave’s renewed interest in woodworking, we decided to create together, marrying his wood skills with my fabric and finishing a project we started over seven years ago!

This is the scene from our lanai on the Big Island back then. I’m still not happy with the ocean. For this project, this was the third ocean, the third set of palm tree leaves and three different types of towels I created. But it’s done. Let’s move on!

Dave created this cute turtle, so I thought my sun printed and stitched fabric would would work perfect with it. Of course, he made the beautiful frame.

Since I had more of that sun printed and stitched fabric, I sewed my own turtle for a companion piece. He found the perfect wood to frame it!

Lastly is this collard printed piece I made and gave as a gift. It needed a frame, and again Dave found the perfect wood and framed it.

This last piece only has a couple pieces of my fabric, so it’s not much of a collaboration. However, I wanted you to see his beautiful wood art. It took him quite awhile to make all of those pieces, that are all made from Hawaiian woods. The picture was taken our last day in Kona this past January. We always take a picture on our last day of vacation, but usually we are facing the camera. This year I thought it would be nice showing us looking out at the ocean and saying our goodbye.

I’ve done a bit of leaf printing with kohlrabi leaves from the garden that I’ll post about later.  I am also working on a new tote, making it a little different than the ones I’ve been making before. Other than that, I am spending a lot of time writing on substack. If you enjoy writing or reading others’ writing, substack is a great platform. You can find me here. I did tell you that it’s all free to subscribe to my blog there or any of the others.

If  you’re into genealogy or writing your story, I’ll be one of the guests on a ProjectKin Inaugural Project Festival Zoom meeting this Tuesday at noon CST. There will be three of us giving short talks on our current projects. Attendees are welcome to give feedback and ask questions. Barbara, who is in charge of ProjectKin, is looking for others to share their projects in future meetings. Here is the link to the information about this meeting. As mentioned above. It’s FREE! I’d love to see you there.

Lastly, the garden is doing great even with this heat and not a lot of rain. Here are a few pictures from my sun area.

Have a great week but stay cool!
