Incline Ice Dyeing

I’m back to show you Dharma Trading’s second three ice dyeing dyes incline ice dyed. The dyes are Dragon Heart, Intersteller, and Wild Thing.

There are lots of incline ice dyeing tutorials on You Tube so I’ll just briefly tell you what I did. I’ve noticed many dyers use vinyl guttering. However, I found these and thought they would work just as well and they fit in our car to take back home. They are called Dripper Flippers and they’re 30 inches long.

To set them up to incline, I used one of my large containers with racks added to the bottom to keep the fabric from sitting in the dye water once the ice was melted.

Here is how they look once the ice and dye is added. I found that it was easier to add the fabric to the gutter and put it in the container first before adding the ice and dye. The ice still slides down, but it was much easier than moving and slanting the gutter.

I waited 48 hours only because it was cool in the garage. After the first 24 hours I moved them to the sink in the laundry room.

I used a half yard of fabric with 1 teaspoon of dye. I grabbed the left corner of the fabric, spun it around, and tied a string to the top. That string is attached to the top of the gutter by a clip. Then I wrapped string around the whole piece to keep it wound up.

Here are my results:

Dragon Heart

Wild Thing

On Intersteller the first picture is using the same process as the first two. The fabric is white on the bottom where the dye never reached the area. The second picture is also Intersteller but folding the fabric in half, grabbing by the corner and spinning it around.

Intersteller

It’s amazing how much green came out of the first Intersteller piece. I also liked how the fabric at the bottom remained white. It really sets off the design. I like all three of these dyes dyed by the incline method.

There is more testing to take place in the future!!
