Well, the rain continues and so do the tornado warnings and watches and flash flood warnings. Tuesday night I went to bed early, but Dave stayed up to make sure the storm was going to miss us. He heard a loud noise and yesterday we found out what it was.
Lightning had hit one of the trees in the cemetery just across the street.

Large pieces of bark was just peeled off the tree and tossed on the ground.

Sure glad no one was hurt and it didn’t hit in our yard or the neighbors’ yards.
It’s been a wild time this past week with so many people with flooded basements and houses. The television station usually announces when roads are closed. Yesterday morning the news anchor said to check out the website – too many to mention. Areas are flooded that haven’t flooded in many, many years. We are so fortunate. I feel sorry for those who are having to fight the water in their homes. Enough is enough. Hope it ends soon.
But on the positive side, everything is growing and blooming. There was a break in the rain so I was able to pick some asparagus and take some shots of more blooming irises.

This last one is similar to another one we have here only this one has curly edges.
Sun is out this morning. Hopefully the rain is passed. So sad to hear about Alabama. I need to check on my sis who lives down there.
Your irises are beautiful! I’m so glad that you didn’t get any storm damage. I hope your sister is OK in Alabama.
One time when we were camping in northern New Mexico, a thunderstorm started with big hail. I jumped into the car to keep from getting pelted. My husband was in the tent. We heard a huge crack of thunder, pieces of wood shot away, many strewn over the car, and right across the road in the campground, the top of a tall pine tree just slid down the tree to the ground. I felt my heart beating like crazy. When the hail subsided, I left the car to go to my husband in the tent. He said, “That sounded close!” I made him stick his head out so he could smell the smell of freshly cut wood and a slight smoky smell–like cordite. No one was hurt, but we certainly appreciate the power of lightning and take no chances when we see a storm brewing.
Denny. Thanks! My sis is fine. It hit her neighborhood, but not her house.
Wow! That was a close call!
Oh your irises are so gorgeous! Just lovely. And wow, that tree…strange what it did to it. Glad you guys are ok.
