Embossing Resist Tutorial

I just love resists. I especially like using glue on fabric. See this post.

Yesterday I wanted to try using embossing as a resist on watercolor paper. I’ve not used my embossing powders for a long time. In fact, I had to hunt for my heat gun.

These supplies are old so I wasn’t sure how well they would work. Here I am painting on the emboss ink on my new favorite Crafters Workshop Mini Daisy Cluster template.

The next step, after lifting up the stencil, is sprinkling on the embossing powder. I used transparent, but you could use a color.

Now after tapping all of the extra embossing powder off of the paper and putting it back in the jar, we’re ready for the heat gun.

Now it's time to use the heat gun.

I had forgotten how much fun it was to watch the embossing powder melt and shine.

Now is where the real fun comes in! I’m using some distress inks on this project. I took Dusty Concord and put several drops on the top of my paper. (The top isn’t important – really anywhere on the page.)

Next, take your brush with a little water, and spread the ink.

Ooo, la, la! I liked that. Now after the whole area is covered, I took my paint cloth and wiped the ink off. Paint cloths make neat material.

Of course, you can use paper towels, but I hate to waste all that color. Or you could use the used paper towels in a project. That would be good!

That looks neat but we’re not done yet.

So I added Broken China ink, wiped it off and then sprayed it with water.

But after wiping the water off, we’re still not done!

Let’s add a little acrylic paint to the project. I added Golden’s Phthalo Blue (Green Shade) fluid acrylic with some water and brushed on the paper.

One more wiping off and we are done!

You don’t have to end here, but I thought it was time to put away the wet stuff. This will make a great journal page or maybe I’ll cut it up and glued on other pages.

I’d like to experiment with colored embossing powder. Also, not adding the acrylic would give it a different look. Have you ever tried this? I’d love to hear your experience with this. I have much more research to do!! Thanks for dropping by.
