Bitten by the felting bug

When I started writing my Telling Your Story column over a year ago for The Evansville Courier & Press about local artists and crafters, I found that I wanted to try some of the crafts I’ve never attempted.

One of those was felting. I swore – I will NOT try felting. However, I found myself stopping by the felting sections at the local craft stores, drooling over all of the luscious colors of roving. Maybe I needed to just try it. What would be the harm?

What sent me over the hill was my latest column which should appear this Sunday. I’ll tell you about Karen soon, but during the interview she had me sit down with her and needle felt. It was so relaxing and “felt” so nice and soft. (Oh, no – I was slipping down that slope.) I left the interview and a few days later went to the craft store and bought a few supplies.

My first project was just blending some of the colors together. After I finished it I thought it would look neat on my art journal. Since I documented this first try in my journal I know exactly when I made my first felted “thing.”

And here is a closeup of the felting.

Since then I’ve made a couple other felted things that I’ll share later. It’s a great craft. I’m not sure I will give up my other passions for felting, but it does make a great addition to some of the stuff I do.
