GIVEAWAY ENDED! CONGRATULATIONS TO TONI ADKINS FROM INDIANA
Good Morning!
Today we have another giveaway at Bloom, Bake & Create. But first, let me tell you about this book.

The publisher Landauer describes this book as follows:
Author, teacher, and quilter Carolyn Forster introduces you to this timeless method of hand quilting – the ideal method for a modern quilter who wants the satisfaction of hand quilting but needs a speedy solution.
Utility Quilting is the perfect solution for today’s modern quilter who wants to quilt by hand in a way that’s stress free, satisfying, quick and easy – with 10 new projects, complete step-by-step instructions, 25 favorite designs, and 12 stitches and knots that have stood the test of time.
While reading through this book, it brought back memories of Mayo, my grandma who always had a quilt frame set up in her house. Her quilts back then were all about covering beds to keep us warm using “utility” quilting to, according to the author, “get the job done.”
The first half of her book contains information on supplies, preparing the quilt, utility quilting designs, the stitches, and binding. The information and step-by-step photos of how to make the various stitches is worth having this book. Here is the page on the bow knot.

The projects include a variety of quilts and even a coffee cup cozy. Cute!

Every project includes a materials list, color pictures of the finished quilt, step-by-step instructions with illustrations of the piecing and quilting, and templates, if applicable.
It’s a great book for anyone interested in hand quilting or even learning these stitches to add to other projects. As with other Landauer publications, the instructions are easy to follow and the layout is easy on the eyes.
Utility Quilting retails for $27.95 and is available from your favorite bookstore or quilt shop, or online at Landauer Publishing.
Now for the giveaway, if you’d like to have a chance to win this book, comment on this blog post. Commenting via email, on Open Salon or Creating the Hive will NOT enter you in this contest. This book intises me to start doing some hand quilting. I have never seen some othe steps it shows. makes it look so easy and a good sofa project instead of sitting at the sewing machine quilting . would like to see more to get those hand quilting juices flowing at my home especially those smaller items that are sitting around here.
Would love to win this…as I am in PT and have to spend time with my feet proped up on the sofa this would be godsend to be able to learn how to do hand quilting..
Does it get any better than this!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great review! I find hand quilting to be very restful and this book seems like it would also make it more productive…a good combination! I enjoy your blog and look forward to seeing it. I love your creative and yet common sense approach to life. Look forward to more… Judy R
I haven’t done any quilting since I was a kid, helping my grandmother hand-tie the ones she made on her giant quilt frame, but I’d be interested in trying!
I have never quilted before but have always wanted to give it a try…I would love to make my Mother in Law a quilt that would Knock her socks off!!
Looks like a very interesting book; I’ve done some hand quilting in the past, although none in the last 5 years, and find it relaxing in some ways but it certainly isn’t a speedy way to finish a quilt; this book looks like it would have some good information on techniques that are unfamiliar to me. Thanks for chance to win!
I’m new to quilting too and am looking for all the help I can get before I start my first quilt. Hand quilting looks like a great way for me to get my feet wet.
Thank you, for the review of this book and the giveaway! I have a couple of quilt tops and a hoop of which I inherited and could use this book. I appreciate the work involved in finishing a quilt by hand. When I use quilts which were made by loving women who have now passed, I feel their love surrounding me.
I like the design of the quilt. Hope I could get the giveaways, so I could do quilt on my own. Thanks for posting the beautiful designs. Looking forward for the more creative and unique styles.
This quilt really looks very interesting to make…Anyway, thanks for the great review here and I want to win this!

Looks like a great book, enjoy hand quilting but don’t do it often enough, maybe this would get me more motivated.
My 23 year old daughter was just telling me yesterday that she wanted to try to quilt. This book would be nice for her I think. Thank you for the contest. Please enter me!

This looks like a good book. I think I’ve heard a review of it elsewhere and thought it would be one I would like.
This book caught my eye, I make a quilt just about every year, my favorite is hand quilting. I nearly got one finished now of the Nativity, suppose to had it done by Christmas but other things have took up my time maybe this coming Christmas. Always like to look at new ideas like in the book.
This kind of giveaway is really what i am always looking for… It is just so helpful and very nice to have…I hope I can win…
I used to make quilt before but I already stopped because it is a bit expensive for me since I have kids already… But I hope I will win this giveaway!

This looks like a great book! Many years ago I took a hand quilting class and loved it! Then life got in the way (husband, kids, work, blah, blah, blah). I would love to have some incentive to try again!
What a wonderful book, and a generous give away! I’d love to win this book to add to my quilting library (and to broaden my quilting skills!)
I would love to win this book…i am learning to quilt and this would be so helpful.
Great book offer. This would help me get some things completed without having send my quilts out to be machine quilted – especially those baby quilts and quilts we make for wounded warriors, etc. I have friends who hand quilt, but I haven’t tried that yet. I really enjoy your blog – helps keep me motivated! 😉
Thanks for the opportunity to enter this “sweepstakes!”
Would love to learn a bit more about hand quilting. Thanks for the chance. Beautiful flowers too!
This book looks really great I would love to add it to my library.
If I win this ould be my first quilting book. Look lovely. Thanks for the opportunity
This quilting book sounds very interesting. I love hand quilted items. My quilt guild had a whistle stop night in 2010 and one of the stops was hand quilting. I tried, but it was hard to do so I’ve stayed away from hand quilting. Winning this book could change.
i would love to have this book it would be able to teach me so much that i dont know
I have done a limited amount of hand quilting and would consider doing more. It can be very restful.
