This is the most lavender I’ve ever harvested and I’m not done yet!
In addition to harvesting Melissa last week, I harvested these four.
Royal Velvet is an absolutely beautiful lavender. It really sticks out in the garden. An English Lavender it grows 24 – 36 inches with 12-15 inch stems. What makes it so striking is the dark buds and light flowers. This is also a good one for desserts and to make lavender sugar.

Sachet is named for it’s primary use – sachets.

This is a small English Lavender only growing 18-24 inches tall with 12-inch stems. It can also be used for culinary treats.

Dilly is in Dave’s wildflower garden and I always have to start singing when I harvest this plant. This makes a great wreath.

Then it’s on to an Unknown. This was labeled Royal Velvet but it’s way too big and not the right color.

It looks like Provence to me, but I’m not sure.

Lastly is Grosso which is one of the several plants that I’ve grown for several years.

Grosso is an Intermediate Lavadin growing 24-36 inches with 16-20 inch stems. This lavender is grown by a lot of commercial growers where they sell lavender by stems. A lavender farm we visited while in Hawaii this past January (I still have that to post!) uses it in their culinary blend. I think it tastes too medicinal but maybe their soil changes the flavor. This plant is hardy and disease resistant. And it yields so much lavender. This whole tub was full from just one plant. I will have three more to harvest shortly. I use this for my Bug Spray.
I still have one more plant to harvest, Hidcote Giant, and the rest of the Grosso when it’s ready. My problem now is I need to make more room.

The garage sure smells good!
Wow, that is a LOT of lavender. Your house must smell absolutely heavenly right now from all the drying plants :)) Do you really use it all during the winter?

Kristina, I’ve never had this much lavender to harvest! Those new plants from last year have really added to my lavender supply. Usually I use it for bug spray and in soap, but with the addition last summer of culinary lavender I plan to bake and cook with it. It’s hanging in the garage and it smells wonderful. But I also have several vases around the house including one in my cave that is filled with the lavender wands.
I love the scent of the lavender, bit i never know that there are too many kinds of this this flower. May I ask, what are you going to do with those dried lavenders? It’s good to make it as air freshener.
Wanda, I’ll be using some of it in cooking and baking but also in soaps. Keep tuned in for those lavender goodies.
Love all the pictures of your lavender! I can smell the heavenly fragrance here in Texas! My husband and I lived in Terre Haute while he attended Rose-Hulman. We miss having four seasons!
Hi Emily, Thanks. Yes, I would really miss the seasons. The colors are really getting pretty right now. Thanks for dropping by.
