Happy Sunday Everyone!
I hope you have been enjoying your weekend. The weather here has been absolutely beautiful.
Before I update you on what’s going on here, I wanted to let you know that for the next three weeks on Mondays I will have a craft book giveaway. As the days to Christmas get closer I might throw in some other stuff too. So stay tuned.
In October I gave several of my readers some of my Melissa lavender to try. Jeanne of For What Its Worth posted about her cookies she made with the Melissa. They are so cute! Check out her blog.
Friday my best bud Barb and I celebrated her birthday with lunch and checked out a fine art fair. I fell in love with this glass piece from David Goldhagen who has a studio in Hayesville, North Carolina. Barb bought it for me for my birthday coming up next month! Sweet!

I bought a pair of earrings from Connie Thatcher of Dragonfly Kiln Works. They are so neat. Connie even described the process for us.

Then Saturday Dave and I drove over to Ferdinand for the Christkindlmartkt. This an annual event with lots of crafts, antiques, and food. Just like last year, we picked up some springerles made by the Sisters at the monastery. Yum!

I also ran into Terri of So Dear 2 My Heart who Barb and I met on our Corydon trip in September. I absolutely loved those little salt shakers she had and kicked myself for not buying one. So I bought one yesterday. Way cute!

Meanwhile we have some nice color going on outside. I absolutely HATE these bushes and we have a lot on our property. If you are not familiar with these bushes, they have lots of stickers so they hurt when working around them. I figured if I dug one or two up every year, by the time I’m ready to kick the bucket, they will all be gone! But they sure are pretty this time of the year.

I really can’t believe after several frosts, one of my lavenders is still blooming!

The figs are holding on but it’s too late for them. Notice all of the leaves are gone.

Our Calendula was also blooming last weekend when I took these pictures. I really got a great harvest of it to play with this winter.

And this persimmon – holding on for dear life. Dave did pick this and the other ones shortly after I took this picture. These are Asian persimmons which are sweet, not puckery like the American ones I remember tasting from the tree across the street where I grew up. We got a few more persimmons this year than last, so hopefully we’ll have lots in the future. They are so good!

And, for my Christmas and early birthday present I bought myself an Ipad. I’ve been wanting one for a couple years but just couldn’t justify the expense. But finally decided to throw caution to the wind and buy it. So I’ve been spending a lot of time with it.

I’ve been the webmaster of our local master gardener group’s website (swimga.org) for the last several years. In my effort to make a correction in my life, I’m turning over the reigns to another member at the end of the year. To do this I need to move the site from my Sandvox software to WordPress. Back when I designed it I wasn’t that familiar with WordPress. However, now after using it with this blog, it will be perfect for the organization and easy for Belinda to update when needed.
So that’s what has been going on here. Hope all is well in your neck of the woods. Be sure and come back tomorrow for the first of my three Monday giveaways.
I thought of it when I saw it mentioned in your post: I’ve been wondering where to get a fig tree. I tasted one this summer that had been grown in someone’s back yard and it was great. I’m not sure I have the right space in my garden, but I might be curious to try.

Amy,
Our figs are on the south side next to our workshop. It’s kind of a microclimate. They usually die back in the winter and then come back in the spring but since we had such a warm winter they didn’t die! Do you follow my Dave’s blog? He talks extensively about gardening. Here is a link to his post on the figs: http://www.ourhappyacres.com/2012/09/time-for-figs/ Thanks for stopping by and commenting.
Thanks!

Congrats on your iPad and also on letting go some tasks 🙂 I’ve been hearing great things about the iPad, but I’m not at the point yet where I can justify getting one. I don’t really need it after all. Hope you have lots of fun with yours :)) Your garden still looks lovely!
