Over the years I’ve kept gratitude journals to document things I was grateful for. They might include a warm sunny day after a dreary cold spell, feeling better after an illness, spending a couple hours with a friend, Dave and our life together, or simply being able to wake up and enjoy one more day. Sometimes they were just part of my regular journals. Next year I want to do something that is not only easier than writing them in a journal – a special blessings mug.
This mug was given to me a couple years ago from Mary, who I posted about the other day. The last of day of that class she gave me this mug.

It has sat on the windowsill near my computer since that day. Now I’ve got a great use for it.
Instead of writing in a journal what I’m grateful for, I’ll write the blessing on a piece of paper and put it in this mug. At the end of next year, I’ll read all of these blessings and make journal pages using them. But first I need the paper and it needs to be ready for me to write.
I found some leftover pieces of paper from journals I made, and cut them up into 3 x 2.5 inch squares. They will fit into the mug without folding.

Now I need to place them near the mug so I can use them. When I run out, I’ll cut some more. All I need now is to grab a pen from my desk and write on them. I could have used plain white paper, but I wanted color – something that celebrates each of these blessings.
So here is my blessing jar and notes, all ready for the new year!

This exercise reminds me of our wedding where we asked our guests to put their wishes for us. We treasure those pages in our wedding album.

I can get quite a few blessing notes in this mug, but when it starts to spill over, I’ll just add another mug. I’m really looking forward to this exercise and reading all of those blessings at the end of next year.
This is SO wonderful! Love it.
That’s such a great idea! And it will be so fun for you to read all those blessings in a year :))
