Daren’s Indigo Dyeing Class

On Saturday I attended Daren Redman’s Indigo Dyeing Class at Carnegie Center for the Arts & History in New Albany, Indiana. First of all I have to mention that I really love this beautiful place with plenty of room for exhibits and classes. I stopped by there in June to see the Form not Function exhibit. I sure wish it was closer than two hours.

My friend Kathy Sands and I played with indigo last November and had so much fun. I purchased a kit recently, but hadn’t made time to play with it. When I saw this class offered I thought this would be a great refresher. I was so happy that a couple of my artsy friends, Teresa and Carla, wanted to join me for this creative adventure.

Daren is a textile artist from Nashville, Indiana. She does a lot of fabric dyeing including indigo.  It was evident that she loves what she does and also enjoys teaching.

After we manipulated our fabrics, we moved to the “wet” room where we dipped our fabric in the dye buckets. After rinsing and unwrapping the dyed fabric, we headed outside to hang them on the line. I don’t have a picture of the line outside, but what a sight of beautiful indigo pieces!

It was a fun day to play again with indigo dye and to share it with friends. Daren, Thanks for the great class!

Oh, the Carnegie Center has a wonderful exhibit going on now that we also enjoyed. I’ll post a few pictures from it soon. So much inspiration!
