This year I decided to do more than just count my irises. For those of you new to my blog, I used to count them and documented that count on my blog. If you’d like to see some of my other irises and read about their history, search iris or iris count.
I love seeing some old friends and some surprises (those that haven’t bloomed in awhile) add color to our landscape. Here are a few of the beauties.
First I decided to bring them inside to enjoy instead of admiring them from afar.
Then, since I’m always looking for colors to use in my art I looked to the irises for inspiration. I searched through my dyed fabric and came up with several iris-inspired colorways.
It amazed me when I saw the colors together. Yes, they look good, but I wouldn’t have chosen those combinations.
Once the irises are gone in a week or so, I’ll still have their colorways to play with. It’s been so much fun for me to combine my loves of gardening and dyeing. Does nature inspire your art?
You have such beautiful Irises, Lynda! I’m envious, as I have yet to get blooms on mine! I am impressed that you were able to come up with colors in your fabrics to go with the different flower combinations! Are you planning to make anything with the fabric combinations?
Judy, I had no idea you were that far behind us. I will probably dye a couple shirts and scarves. But no other plans. Just really interested in seeing the colors together.
Hi Lynda-Gorgeous photos of your gorgeous irises!! It must have been a lot of fun finding the colors schemes in your fabrics.
Lynda – those are truly beautiful – how creative–exactly matching ALL those beautiful flowers – wouldn’t have believed it if I didn’t SEE it!
Sue, Thanks!
Julie, It was really fun and now I have some new colorways to play with!
Great idea for getting color inspiration from your garden. I wish I could grow such beauties here in FL.

Hi Angie, Thanks! But you can grow oranges and I can’t!!
Gorgeous colour combos
Stunning flowers and colorways!
Jo, Thanks!
Jill, Thanks!
This is a true inspiration. Sometimes to force myself to use unfamiliar color combinations, i close my eyes and pick up 3 crayons from my box randomly. Then i use them on a page. This challenges me to juxtapose colors i have never thought of.Your irises work the same.Colors are fantastic.

Ozge, Thank you so much! I love my irises and they are here such a short time. This was a way of having them stay all year and also helped me to combine colors I wouldn’t do. I love your idea about the crayons! Thanks for dropping by.
Absolutely fantastic! The flowers are stunning, the colors are stunning, and the combinations are SUBLIME!!!
Ellen, Thanks. That was so much fun last year.
Beautiful!
Kathleen, Thanks!
