I’m excited about teaching a couple classes locally. I usually spend most of my dyeing time with fiber reactive dyes, but every so often I play with Colorhue dyes. They are instant set color that requires no prep – just playing time! It’s a great way to be introduced to dyeing and since there is little waiting time, the completed scarf can be worn home from the class! It’s also pretty safe for kids. The only drawback is they don’t work on cotton. But they are lovely on silk!
My Easy and Fun Silk Dyeing classes will take place Thursday, October 22 from 10 – noon at Studio 4905 in Henderson, Kentucky and Saturday, November 14 from 10 – noon at Scattered Art in Newburgh, Indiana. To register for the Studio 4905 class, Call Sherry at 270-869-4469. For the Scattered Art class call Dolly at 812-490-0074. The cost of the class is $40 which includes two scarves and all supplies.
For my local readers, I demonstrated dyeing with these dyes on WEHT Local Lifestyles program Wednesday. I was so excited to share this with the local TV viewing audience. Here is the link to the first video segment of the program.
They’ve not posted the video of the results at the end of the program so here are the two scarves. Ange, the host, painted the yellow and turquoise one.
These are just samples of scarves that can be created. Color choices and designs will be up to students. The scarves we will be working with in class will be longer than those pictured which are 8 by 54 inches. We’ll be working with 8 by 72 inches, giving us more area to play! Additional blank scarves will be available for purchase. These would make great Christmas gifts.

In addition to preparing for the TV segment and the classes, I’ve been doing a bit more ice dyeing.
And while I was on vacation I drew a few more mandalas. I’m still in love with them.
The kids missed being together while we were gone. We board them, but they don’t get to stay in the same cage. So the day we picked them up, they spent quality time together.

Looks like you’re up to some very fun adventures. I’m taking Candy’s class on silk dyeing. It’s quite similar to her cotton ones, but the formulas get tweaked for silk. I keep being asked if I would teach a class on dyeing at the quilts that I belong to. Obviously using Procion MX dyes is not a single three hour session. So I’ve declined, until now,,, I must check out the dye you’re using and its process. Maybe I will be able to after all.

Luann, I’m also taking Candy’s silk dyeing class because my results with fiber reactive dyes have been less then stellar. This dye is good to introduce people to dyeing. I’ve wanted to teach regular dyeing classes too. With your guild people I’d jump at the chance to do it!! They will just need instructions on batching and wash out to do at home. Now with ice dyeing, it would be hard to move the containers. Go for it!!
Hi Nancy, They don’t seem to be well known at all. They are a bit pricey but a great way to get people to try dyeing. And they are instant gratification unlike regular dyes.

Now why didn’t I think of that? I have had some colorhue dyes for a long time, and haven’t done anything since I tried them the first time. How exciting that you get to demo on TV today! Hope it goes well… you’re going to become a guru before you know it!
Judy, Thanks. I was asked to demo dyeing on TV and decided the easiest would be Colorhue since they are instant gratification. I’ll be able to show the finished scarves by the end of the hour show. And I’ve been wanting to teach a class in them since my scarves dyed with it sold locally real well. Hope these classes might get participants interested in dyeing with fiber reactive dyes.
BTW, did you dilute the colorhue or use full strength?
Judy, I dilute them 1 dye/3 water.
