Hemp Bagels

I was approached via email recently to review a food product. I usually just review craft books and crafts, but since it was for French Meadow with their all organic and all natural products, I thought I could break away from the norm.

French Meadow, usually found in health food stores or at least in our area, carries a variety of breads, bagels, muffins rolls, cakes, cookies and brownies. Some are even gluten-free. Since we took a pledge not to buy any bread or really eat any non-homemade bread here this year, I bought the Hemp bagels. Bagels are something we probably won’t make. Well, at least not this year!

I’ve not eaten frozen bagels in years and never anything with hemp in it. We don’t have a toaster (another story), so I defrosted it in the microwave.

Looks homemade to me! We couldn’t believe how beautiful they looked, topped with sesame, poppy and sunflower seeds. But the next test was how they tasted.

I spread mine with butter. Dave spread his with his green tomato jam.

We found these bagels to be not only nice looking, but really tasty. They are not heavy, but substantial. One bagel contains 13 grams of fiber (wow!) and 19 grams of protein weighing in at 280 calories. They are good for us and also really have a great taste and wonderful texture.

They make a great afternoon snack (I just ate a half of one) or good for breakfast. They could be filled with meat or cheese and made into a sandwich for lunch or dinner. I was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed and continue to enjoy them. If you are looking for an alternative to plain bagels and want to ramp up your fiber and protein intake, try these.
