Monica chose this topic for our picture this week in the 52 in 52 weeks Challenge. This is the first thing that came to my mind when I thought about Independence. It brings up a lot of memories about my first car, but also memories of my aunt having to give her car up – her independence – in her 80s.
What does that word mean to you and how would you express it in a picture? You can still join us. We’d love to have you!
Great theme! When did you get your first car? Mine was a beat up old Seat, I got it at age 19 🙂
Though I’m doing my 52 without themes I’m looking forward to reading up on your themes here throughout the year!
Kristina, I bought my 70 Chevrolet Camero in 1970 brand new for $2900. I was 19 also and was going to college, working at the telephone company, and living at home. I saved up the money to pay cash for that car from that job. My dad always believed in buying new cars since he was always on the road with his job and they only lasted him a couple years. I’ve always bought new cars and then drove them until they are almost dead. My Corolla is a 1999 and still going strong!
So you aren’t doing themes in your group?
You chose a perfect picture and meaning for independance!! I’ll have to think of this one…it’s a great page for me to scrap in my ‘book of me’ I’m working on this year 🙂
I googled the chevrolet, what a beautiful car!! Cars used to be so much prettier than they are now 🙂 I was actually really lucky with my Seat, I got it for free and had it fixed by a neighbour. It hardly gave me any trouble in the 2 years I had it (only with minor parts, but the engine never gave me trouble). My dad then got me a car new (a VW Fox) a couple of years ago and I have been having so much trouble with it since and it cost me so much in repairs! I guess you just have to get lucky with cars 🙂
We aren’t doing themes in the 52 group I joined, just a photo of whatever the week meant to us. My personal theme this year is journaling though. I will try and add a sentence or two for each photo, because I’ve found that we so easily forget how we actually felt at that particular moment, it gets a little hazy after even a few days and I want to remember 🙂
