Craft Fair Finds

Yesterday, Dave and I went to one of my favorite craft fairs here in our town of Newburgh. It’s put on by the local women’s group and held at the local high school.

I really like this fair because even though it is smaller than the Christmas fair held in the same school, to me the quality of the vendors is much better, although many of the same ones at the Christmas show also return for this event.

I enjoy visiting with some of the artists/crafters I have interviewed over the past year and love meeting new people and their beautiful works of art.

Hubby loves these craft shows as much as I do and is very helpful with giving me suggestions on possible interview subjects. Being a woodworker and former craft show vendor, he is especially knowledgeable about wood. I found several interesting local crafters to interview for my future columns.

But we always buy something. One of our favorite vendors this year was not from our area. If he lived here, I’d love to interview him. He lives in Nashville, Indiana, a cute artsy town 2 1/2 hours north of here.

Brad Cox of The Iron Gate makes unique garden art. His work involves lots of  recycling.  The dragonfly’s body is an old spark plug.

He will go in Dave’s butterfly garden this year. Right now he’s waiting in an indoor plant.

Isn’t he cute? He’ll go out somewhere in one of our gardens.

Brad doesn’t have a website, but can be contacted at 812-988-6690 or theirongatebybradcox@yahoo.com. I hope I will see him in the future at other shows. I’d love to see what he creates next.

Then we stopped by one of our favorite soap makers – Soap Solutions. I had been lusting after one of their new soaps I saw they had posted online – Jasmine Green Tea Face Wash. It’s always nice to talk with Mary and Tracy and see what new soaps they have come up with.

Soap Solutions has their own website and can also be found on Facebook, where they keep us updated on their new soaps. Can’t wait to try this new one!

I wasn’t quite as prepared to go to the craft show yesterday as I usually am. I always dress in layers and not real heavy clothing because even though it’s cold outside, it’s always hot in the crowd. So I was good there, but I forgot the checkbook.

A lot of the crafters only take cash or checkbooks which was true of Brad. When I asked Brad if he took credit he said no, BUT he’d give me credit – an IOU that I could send him the check later. WHAT? He says it does it all the time. Wow! I had never heard of that!

We didn’t need Brad’s credit since between the two of us we had enough cash, but that was good to learn that trust still exists.

That was a fun morning. I look forward to the next spring craft show.
