Garden Conferencing

Hubby and I took a trip to Warsaw, Indiana Friday to attend a Master Gardener’s conference. Now, Warsaw is six hours by car from our house (including a potty stop and quick picnic in the car) and usually I’m not big into driving somewhere for that many hours to just stay overnight, attend the conference and head on back home.

However, since I am co-chair of our 2012 garden conference and their keynote speaker was Paul James (The Gardening Guy from HGTV Gardening By The Yard) who will also be our keynote, I wanted to see how he operated at conferences. Well, I was pleased and it made for a very informative trip. I really look forward to him coming to Evansville.

While we were there we checked out the vendors and bought this cute turtle. I know – another turtle!

No name for her or him yet. Seems like we always name turtles male names. This one may be a female.

I enjoyed talking to Penney Whisenhunt who with her husband Jerry make these really neat garden metal art pieces. Their business is Altra Designs 2000 and they are located in Huntington, Indiana (I don’t have a clue where that is!). Anyway, they are vending at a lot of the Indiana fairs this year so if you’re in the state, check out their stuff. They can also be reached at altradesign2000@hotmail.com or 260-468-2541. I love to plug these local artists!

There were 300 gardeners at this conference and there were 30 prizes. Dave won one of them – Yipee!

This beautiful pot came with chocolate, gummy flowers (WHAT!), tea, coffee, and dip mix. Nice prize.

These conferences put on by the local Master Gardener groups are always fun and informative. I learn something interesting every time we attend one and it’s great research for our conference. If you are at all interested in gardening, check out your local garden conferences. You don’t have to be a Master Gardener to attend. They are always interesting with good food and great vendors.
