I really like using stamps in different ways than just stamping the image on fabric. In this past post, I stamped and then thread stitched to make the applique. In this post, I’m making an applique using pieces of the stamped image.
First, I ironed a fusible web to the back of three different colors of fabric. I stamped on the back of the fusible web with one of my foam stamps. Check out the tutorial here on making these foam stamps.
Next, I cut out the pieces. Once they were cut out I began to build the houses on my background fabric.
I mixed and matched the house colors, and because they had fusible on the back, all I had to do was remove the paper and iron them down. Under the background fabric is a tear away stabilizer that will help with the stitching.
Next I went to the sewing machine and stitched around the houses.
I added some door knobs with a black pen.
Then I tore off the stabilizer.
Now to add felt to the back of the fabric. I used a new-to-me product, Bo-Nash Fuse It Powder. I sprinkled just a little on the felt.
Then I added the fabric and ironed.
Since I decided to make these for cards, I cut them to the size I wanted, and stitched around them. I attached them to the card stock with Sobo, my favorite glue. While I was at it I also made a pin. Of course, you can make these appliques with any stamps. Next time I’ll try a larger one!
I’ve been getting out a couple hours at a time to clean up some of the flower beds. It feels so good to get out there and dig in the dirt! It’s so peaceful. I’m always amazed that the time goes by so fast. This sweet dwarf iris, “Powder Blue Giant,” was blooming. I bought it several years ago, and I finally got to see it this season.

Hope it’s sunny where you are, even if the sun is not out. As always, thanks for dropping by.
Thanks for another inspirational idea,,,,, hmmmmmm. It’s sunny in Summerville, SC this morning and even though the pollen is high, a walk in the sunshine about noon is a refreshing for my soul.
Thank you for dropping by. I didn’t walk yesterday since it rained all day, but will today for sure. It sure helps my mood. Have a great weekend.
Love your charming houses! That reminds me that I have some Bo-Nash powder and haven’t tried it yet.
Angela, Thanks. I bought that powder for some project awhile back, but now I can’t remember!! However, it did work really good for this, and I will be using it again. Thanks for dropping by.
Love the idea of using stamps to create appliqué. Thanks for sharing your process. Nothing like a primary color palette to brighten the day.
Gwyned, Thanks. Yeah, I just felt I needed some bright colors! Thanks for stopping by and commenting.
I love your little houses and the backgrounds behind them. A clever way to use stamps.
Norma, Thanks!
