Miniature Art Exhibit

After all of the years I’ve spent dyeing and printing fabric, I’m finally feeling comfortable making art with it, and putting it out into the world. Today is all about miniatures.

I recently entered two of my miniatures in a show at the Arts Council of Southwestern Indiana. The requirement was that all artwork must be 4 x 4 inches or smaller. Frames could be up to 60 inches. It was so much fun to see them hung. Here are my two pieces. This first one is using my dyed fabric, and some scrappy fabric. I’ve attached an old earring to the piece. This one is called Goddess.

The second one is a piece of painted and stitched fabric. I added the coneflower embellishments that I drew, painted, stitched, cutout and then sewed to the top of this piece. This is called Sun Garden.

I had never added fabric pieces in frames, and I really liked how they looked. I’ll be doing more of those for future shows.

If you’re in the area, the Arts Council is located at 212 Main Street in Evansville, Indiana. They are open Tuesday through Friday from 10 am – 4 pm. Here is a little tour of the show and some of my favorite pieces.

These were just a few of my favorites. It is a great show. My friend Barbara went with me, and we snapped a picture together next to Goddess. It was a fun outing. Note: We took our masks off briefly just for the picture.

In other art work, I finished the 9 x 12 piece for the SAQA (Studio Art Quilt Associates) Trunk Show. This show will travel around for three years before returning home. This was fun to make using my stencil printed fabric and those stamped and stitched leaves. I called this Fallen Leaves.
