This craft has been around for a long time. I first saw Carol Duvall demonstrate this years and years ago on her show and I thought it was so neat. In her book, “Paper Crafting with Carol Duvall” she called it molded tissue! It’s cheap and easy.
Here is one of them on my art journal page. I made this “molded tissue” several years ago using a polymer clay mold. It has just been hanging around in my studio waiting for me to find it a home.

If you aren’t familiar with the process, I’ll take you through it. All you need is a mold or a rubber stamp, toilet paper, brush, and water. That’s it.
Lay one ply of tissue on top of the mold or stamp and dab on water with a brush.

Continue to do this for at least eight layers. Use the brush to push the toilet paper down into the image. Then let it dry, and pull the paper off the stamp and you have a piece of molded tissue art!

Here is another one.
I went ahead and got out my Glimmer Mists and sprayed that one.

Then I hunted through my stash and found these little memory frames.

And the finished frame with glass added in front of the art.

Remember those stamps I made the other day? I used one of those for this technique.

Now I thought I’d color it with one of my markers.

These little art pieces can be added to cards and scrapbook pages, made into pendants or framed. This would be a great craft with the little ones.
Well, how neat. Going to try that technique. I really like the script and scroll pieces. You always have interesting posts-tfs.

Bev, It’s fun! Thank so much for the compliment! Lynda
The molded tissue idea is very cool…I have never seen that before. And you just use water? No glue of any kind? I’m surprised!
Kathy, No just water.
Oh, another interesting new technique and I love the look of it. I’m always learning new things on your blog 🙂

Kristina, So glad you liked this. Thanks for the compliment! Lynda
I love this…..so cool = )
Thanks for sharing,Lynda. I made these years ago as well. Must have been after the Carol Duvall episode. Your pieces are lovely.
Kim, Thanks. I sure would love to see some reruns of those shows. I always enjoyed them. Thanks for your kind words and stopping by. Lynda
HI what a great idea i am going to try this in the next couple of days, thank you so much for sharing this i have only been card and scapping for about a year.
Loraine, So glad you liked this. Thanks for dropping by and I’d love to see what you make. Lynda
Hi, This looks neat! Just a question though. Will the layers and molded effect come apart when the tissue dries or over time? Also if we wanted something wider than toilet tissue could we substitute regular tissue paper?
Hello Cascades, Mine have not come apart and several were made years ago. I’ve not substituted tissue paper but I don’t see why you couldn’t use it. Let me know how it turns out if you try it. Thanks for dropping by and commenting.
Hi There Lynda,
This might be a stupid question but – when you say tissue paper are you referring to ‘Kleenex’ style tissue paper or the paper one buys to wrap gifts in????
I really love this idea and when I can pull myself away from making coiled paper Xmas ornaments, I will surely give it a try. Thanks so much for sharing. Lis
Hi Lis, This craft is made with toilet tissue, not package wrap or Kleenex. It’s fun and so easy!
This looks like so much fun. And so many possible uses. I am definitely going to try this when I can stop pinning on pinterest. 🙂 Thanks for sharing.
Lou, It is fun! Thanks for dropping by and I’d love to see what you make. Lynda
Have just found you page…and think it is rather amazing what you have created…absolutely love it…thank you for sharing your idea.
Cheers
Barb 🙂
Barb, Thank you and thanks for dropping by.
What an awesome idea. Thanks so much for sharing this idea. I can’t wait to try it out.
Neysa, You are so welcome. And it’s so easy!
What a cool technique!
Heidi, Thanks!
I’m researching this technique right now and have a question. Why do you do it in layers. Can’t you just put all the layers on at once and make them wet?
Lynn, I’m no expert on this technique but if you just put all of the layers in the mold and dab on water you might not get a good enough design. As I mentioned in this post, I got this technique from Carol Duvall, who was the queen of crafts for many years. Why not experiment and see what happens. Thanks for dropping by.
Thank you so much! It’s very very interesting! I’ll try it asap.

Hi Sandie, You are so welcome. Have fun!
What a really lovely idea! I think I’m going to try this!
Rhissanna, It’s easy and fun! Enjoy!
You indicate you lay down 8 layers. Do you lay down a layer, let it dry and then add another layer? Or do you lay down 8 individual layers, wetting each layer, then adding another layer, wetting it, adding another, etc. until you have 8 layers and THEN let it dry?
Susie, You lay down a layer, wet it and then add the next layer, wet it, and continue until you have all of the layers. Then let it dry. Thanks for dropping by.
I made these years ago, but I used liquid spray starch watered down and the cheap cheap toilet paper works best.
Hi Kim, Never heard of using liquid spray starch. That definitely would work. Thanks for dropping by.
I love this technique but I have a question. What if you wanted to decoupage it on to something, wouldn’t the design come undone?
Hi Marlene, Yes, the design would come undone if you try to decoupage it. You notice in one of the pictures that I glued it in one of my art journals. That works fine, but decoupage would not work. Thanks for dropping by.
Thank you for answering. I figured it would come undone. I was thinking of using it on one of my upcycled wine bottles, glue will have to work. ☺
